Felicity of Animal World

SPIKED barbs of remorse
Do not enter the soul of the horse.
The jocund cow
Does not reflect on the why and how.
No mention of right and wrong
Is made in the lark’s song.
The goat does not waste his time
Considering concupiscence a crime.
The peregrine
Has no notion of sin;
Nor does it occur to the mole
To look to the salvation of his soul
Nothing could be more free
Than the conscience of the chimpanzee;
And every beaver
Is a born unbeliever.
Prayer
Does not interest the bear,
And not even the dove
Ever got the idea that God is love.
