In Ukraine’s southern Zaporizhzhia region, about 25 kilometers from front-line battles in Russia’s ongoing invasion of the country, a group of Ukrainian volunteer veterinarians from Kyiv recently traveled to the village of Tavriyske to do checkups and treat injured or sick animals. Residents who remain in the region despite the dangers of near-constant bombardment brought their own pets to the temporary clinic, as well as some of many stray animals, to be examined, treated, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated.
