The Puzzler
THE MUSIC GOES ROUND AND ROUND
The diagram represents that quaint old item a phonograph record. The music is provided by answers to clues a through w, which are to be entered sequentially, starting in the outermost ring in the section marked 1. The answers proceed counterclockwise until they have come full circle; then they drop (whether in mid-word or not) to the next ring down in section 1, and proceed in like manner, ending in the innermost ring. As a check, clues 1 through 18 yield six-letter words to be entered radially; half of these words proceed from outside to inside, the other half from inside to outside. Unfortunately, this old record skips: there are 12 instances during answers a through w in which a letter is omitted from the diagram, daken in order, these 12 letters spell out the song on the record. Answers include four proper nouns, one a trade name, and an unusual word at 13.
