THIS story concerns one of those eccentric theatrical families which always make good fiction — however exasperating they would be in fact. It wanders all over New England, New York, and most of the Middle West. Sandy Barton, her daughter Bunny, her son-in-law Dan Reilly, her three obstreperous grandchildren, and an assortment of maids, producers, actors, and bewildered non-theatrical citizens whisk through fast and frequently funny episodes. The characters are likable and convincing, despite their habitual staginess, and the fashions of 1917 are described with nostalgic charm.
