MR. KROLL must have had a wonderful time completing this novel left unfinished by Mr. Sublette at the time of his death. The hero of the story is Jim Dalyrymple, the time 1821. The story begins in Indiana on a tributary of the Mississippi with Jim preparing to drift down to New Orleans on his flatboat. He hopes to sell his furs and ginseng at a good profit —and to find his father, who went down river to see a man about a horse two years ago. How Jim goes, what happens to him, the amazing people he meets, and what wristlocks he puts on the long arm of coincidence make up a breathless story, full of fury and suspense.
