Mama's Bank Account

MAMA’S daughter Katrin takes us into the heart of a delightful Norwegian family who are slowly learning American ways in San Francisco. Nels wants to go to high school, Papa needs an operation, Katrin must have a fine graduation present to show off to the other girls — and always it is Mama who understands and who manages somehow to make everything come out right. There is brisk humor in these sketches —— in Mama’s tilts with the medical profession, in Dagmar’s first day at school, in Papa’s airplane project. Even in moments of near-tragedy, Kathryn Forbes sustains her determinedly cheerful tone.
