Martin Borsanyi, of Newport Beach, Calif., writes: "There should be a good English word describing the realization of the perfect riposte three hours after the argument. The Germans say 'Treppenwitz.' The French use the term 'esprit de escalier,' n'est pas? We ought to have a word of our own."

How about "Costanzaed" after Seinfeld's George Costanza? I'm referring to the episode where George spent days planning to drop a witty riposte on the executive who humiliated him in a boardroom.
