Martin Borsanyi, of Newport Beach, Calif., writes: "There should be a good English word describing the realization of the perfect riposte three hours after the argument. The Germans say 'Treppenwitz.' The French use the term 'esprit de escalier,' n'est pas? We ought to have a word of our own."

"Afterwit" is very good, but could it be refined to indicate the frustration?
Perhaps:
ishtot (I Should Have Thought Of That)

I agree with this solution, with one tiny addition -- ISHTOTT, or I Should Have Thought Of That THEN.

How about "Costanzaed" after Seinfeld's George Costanza? I'm referring to the episode where George spent days planning to drop a witty riposte on the executive who humiliated him in a boardroom.
