Going
POETRY
by W. S. Merwin
Feet waiting in pairs ways of sitting in subways
through all ages ways of waiting
thinking of something else that is elsewhere
iron carriages all day flying through night
positions of daily papers held up to be read
same papers flying in parks rising above trees
are reflected once in glass unknown glass
and in spilled water before feet hurrying homeward
through all ages ways of waiting
thinking of something else that is elsewhere
iron carriages all day flying through night
positions of daily papers held up to be read
same papers flying in parks rising above trees
are reflected once in glass unknown glass
and in spilled water before feet hurrying homeward
