Thought for the Day

BY HERBERT J. WARREN
I cannot weep for Christian blood
Spilled by the Moors a thousand years ago,
Nor tremble for those centuries, long yet to come,
When he, if anyone, who bears my seed
May starve.
Before our parents were born
Your grandfather kicked my grandfather.
I did not feel it then
And do not now.
But if ever you kick me, brother,
For, until then, you are my brother,
Do not, thereafter, walk alone in dark places.
