Before Night
by EDWARD WEISMILLER
THE colors of the day
Are gray, and blue, and gray,
Gray turning black.
What candors of the sky —
What colors of delight
Hold back
(Yellow, and red, and green)
From gathering night?
Are gray, and blue, and gray,
Gray turning black.
What candors of the sky —
What colors of delight
Hold back
(Yellow, and red, and green)
From gathering night?
The scene
Is this: a house; a tree. —
Now from my chair I see
Those unsuspected thieves
The accomplished leaves
Ingather all:
Take yellow, red, and green—take fire and lighl,
And fall.
Is this: a house; a tree. —
Now from my chair I see
Those unsuspected thieves
The accomplished leaves
Ingather all:
Take yellow, red, and green—take fire and lighl,
And fall.
