COMMANDOS in training in Scotland, and later in action, form the subject of this novel. The men of this masculine society are of all kinds—from the aristocratic Captain Blanchard to the newest recruit, O’Donovan, the hero of the story. Hard training prepares Captain Blanchard’s subsection for its desperate sorties into Norway and France. O’Donovan, with his artist’s eye for color and line, could be trusted not to overlook the Captain’s lovely sister Carol when she comes to visit her brother — nor does he, though he is something new in her life. The story moves fast; the writing is tense and clean.
