The Two Wives

MR. SWINNERTON is an exceedingly able writer with a long list of good novels to his credit, and the latest of these is as good as the best of its predecessors. The central figure is a small English comedian, Sam Barnabas, the darling of his ‘public,’ who in private life is surrounded by shiftless, sinister relatives, a succession of two sponging wives, and is innocently involved in crime and scandal. Through all tribulations he preserves a constructive sanity, good humor, and a kind of innocence.
