THERE is an unconscionable amount of miscellaneous information in this book which makes it one for the reader to keep by him. Its point is that the more America changes, the more it remains essentially the same. Mr. Strunsky is always plausible, always seductive, but the experienced reader will think twice about many of his conclusions.
