Official Rules: Rewrite Shakespeare

SPONSOR. Princeton Review Management, L.L.C. (the "Sponsor") is the official sponsor of this contest.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER. No purchase necessary. A purchase will not help you win. Your chances of winning without making a purchase are the same as the chances of someone who purchases something.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to all legal residents of the United States and the District of Columbia, excluding Puerto Rico, except as prohibited by law.

HOW TO ENTER

The contest begins on February 17th and the deadline for entry is March 10th (the "Deadline"). Entrants must enter the contest by submitting their essay via e-mail to [email protected]. Each essay must have the contestant's name, phone number, and e-mail address in order to qualify.

Every person who submits an essay shall be entered in the contest. Only one entry per person is allowed. All entries must be received by Princeton Review Management, L.L.C. (the "Sponsor") by the end of the Deadline, and entries must be completed in full to be eligible.

All materials submitted for the contest become the property of The Princeton Review and may appear on www.theatlantic.com ("The Atlantic Online") and elsewhere with annotations and comments from The Princeton Review staff. The entrant hereby irrevocably transfers to the Sponsor, its successors and assignees, all rights, title and interests therein, whether or not copyrightable or legally protectible or recognized as forms of property and whether or not completed or used in practice, including all rights under copyright and the exclusive rights to print, publish, distribute and sell the entrant's essay in all editions and formats in any form or medium whether now known or hereafter known throughout the world, which includes, but is not limited to, all formats of print and all formats of electronic, magnetic, digital, laser or optical based media, alone or in combination with other contributions, in whole or in part, in any language, throughout the world, together with the right to make such changes as Sponsor deems appropriate. The Princeton Review assumes no responsibility for lost, late, delayed, damaged, incomplete, illegible, unintelligible, inaccurate, or misdirected entries.

ADDITIONAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

By completing the essay and sending to [email protected], the entrant is submitting his/her information to Sponsor. The Sponsor will not be contacting entrant, except to notify him/her if he/she is the winner of the contest. By submitting an essay the contestant fully and unconditionally agrees to and accepts these Official Rules. This contest is void where prohibited.

Subject to any governmental approval that may be required, Sponsor reserves the right to, without prior notice and at any time, terminate or cancel the contest, in whole or in part, or modify the contest in any way.

Sponsor, its agents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, consultants, employees and representatives are not responsible for (i) any condition caused by events beyond their control that may cause the contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (ii) any injuries, losses, or damages (compensatory, direct, incidental, consequential or otherwise) of any kind arising in connection with or as a result of the prize, or acceptance, possession, or use of the prize, or from participation in the contest; or (iii) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the contest.

By participating in the contest, each entrant agrees to release and hold Sponsor, its respective affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies, legal advisors, or other parties in any way involved in the development, production, or distribution of the Sponsor, its agents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, consultants, employees and representatives, harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions in any kind in connection with the contest or resulting from acceptance, possession, or use of any prize, including without limitation, personal injury, death, and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy.

PRIZES

Prizes will be 10 copies of The Best American Essays of the Century, edited by Joyce Carol Oates and Robert Atwan, and 10 copies of The Best American Short Stories of the Century, edited by John Updike and Katrina Kenison. The top 10 winners will each receive a one copy of both books for a total estimated retail value of $30.

Total estimated retail value of all prizes that may be awarded is $300. No transfer of prizes or substitution of prizes is permitted. The winner is not entitled to any cash value of the prize.

SELECTION OF WINNER

Entries will be judged based on the grading criteria described on The Atlantic Online's Rewrite Shakepeare contest Web site. Decisions of the judges are final. Except for the winners and those selected for publication on The Atlantic Online, contestants will not be informed of the judges' scores or the rankings of entries. The judging will be announced on March 16th. A list of winners will also be posted on the Web site. Odds of winning depend on final number of entries and cannot be calculated in advance.

NOTIFICATION OF A WINNER

The winner will be notified within ten (10) days after the entrant has been deemed a winner. All decisions of Sponsor are final and binding. Sponsor is not responsible for late, lost, or misdirected notifications. If the potential winner cannot be contacted within ten (10) business days of the first attempt, or if the potential winner fails to comply with these Official Rules, the potential winner forfeits the prize. Any prize not claimed within ninety (90) days after notification will be forfeited, and Sponsor shall not be held responsible to, or liable for failure to, contact the potential winner who provided an incorrect or no address if a prize is not returned or not sent. Entrants shall be sure to update their questionnaires/entry forms regularly with their correct contact information so that they will receive prizes if they become a potential winner. Any potential winner who fails to notify Sponsor with any complaint or problem within ninety (90) days after prize notification, forfeits the right to do so.

The winner may be required to sign (or winner's legal guardian or parent if such winner is not of legal age in his/her state of residence) a publicity release within thirty (30) days of notification, which will allow Sponsor to use winner's name, biographical information, picture, portrait, voice and/or likeness for the purpose of advertising, trade, or promotion without further compensation or consideration in any and all media throughout the world, unless prohibited by law. If required by Sponsor, the potential winner must sign (or winner's legal guardian or parent if such winner is not of legal age in his/her state of residence) and return a release of liability, declaration of eligibility within thirty (30) days of receipt. If winner is not of legal age in the state of residence, the prize will be awarded in the name of a parent of legal guardian.
