On this stop of The Atlantic Across America tour, The Atlantic and The Assembly will convene in Durham, North Carolina, to host an examination of the future of higher education and North Carolina’s role in the national landscape. First we’ll hear from prominent leaders in the Triangle’s higher-education ecosystem—Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Lee H. Roberts, Chancellor of North Carolina State University Kevin Howell, and Chancellor of North Carolina Central University Karrie G. Dixon—as they explore the evolving case for college. Then a conversation with Atlantic and North Carolina journalists will broaden the lens, as they share reporting insights on how the state’s economic, political, and cultural shifts are shaping public life in North Carolina and beyond.
